Frequently Asked Questions

1 . How do I access Kankee Briefs?

There's a few ways to download Kankee Briefs - all are free. If you've paid for a Kankee Brief, you didn't need to do that, as Kankee Briefs is, and always will be, completely free.

a) Patreon - make a free Patreon account and go the Kankee Briefs Patreon page (linked here). Find the relevant post for the new topic and download the PDF and/or Word documents.

b) Open Source Google Drive - if you don't desire making a Patreon account, all current and archived Kankee Brief files are freely available at the Kankee Brief Open Source folder (linked here). This includes every Kankee Brief ever released, so make sure to open the folder of the current year.

c) Email List - every new Kankee Brief can be sent directly to your email inbox upon release  if you sign up for our email list via our form (linked here), If later you wish to unsubscribe from our email list, please fill out our opt-out form (linked here).

Remember that many school email accounts will automatically filter out our emails, so if possible, subscribe to our email list with your personal email instead.

d) OpenCaselist - the Open Evidence project (linked here) on OpenCaselist usually exclusive to policy debate files, but our LD files are also accessible there. Login with your Tabroom account, and select the Open Evidence button. Then either use the control+F find tool to search Kankee Briefs, OR use the in-built search bars and look for files with the Lincoln-Douglas header.

2. What is our release schedule?

For each topic, Kankee Briefs releases our main file,  the brief, and the AT File, our block file.

The NSDA topic schedule has new LD resolutions released every two months (see the bottom of the topic page linked here). Generally, we release briefs two weeks after the topic announcement, so briefs are almost always released on the 15th of the month a topic is released.

Unlike other organizations, we like to scout what arguments other debaters have read and what other briefs have produced. This requires us reviewing topic -specific debates and speech documents from the Opencaselist Wiki, as opposed to imperfectly predicting what arguments people will read before they read them. Therefore we do not release our blocks for the topic with our main brief. AT Files are released on the 7th of the month after a topic is released.

For example, for the Nov-Dec topic, the resolution is released on October 1st, so you can expect a new brief to be released on October 15th and for the AT File to be released on November 7th. Alternatively, if do don't wish to track the release schedule, sign up for our email list (linked here) or follow the instructions below to add our release schedule to your Google Calendar

For NSDA/NSDA Nationals, we have an altered release schedule where the Nationals AT File is released on the 25th (not the 7th of the following month). Given that these are one-off tournaments with minimal Wiki disclosure requirements, waiting till the 7th of the next month is largely counter-productive.

Linked here is a sharable Google Calendar, which includes our Brief/AT File release schedule as well as the NSDA/NCF: topic release schedule. You can add this to your own Google Calendar, and even modify to add notification reminders as needed, in order for you to know in advance when you should expect new files from Kankee Briefs.

3. How can I volunteer?

Kankee Briefs is entirely ran by volunteers staff for everything from card cutting and topic analyses, to back-end work like website support and social media. If you want to contribute to Kankee Briefs and give back to the debate community, please fill out our volunteer form (linked here).
